Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were recently found poisoned with a nerve agent in the southern English city of Salisbury. From the news, the investigators have determined to a certainty that the toxin used is easily identified as a favorite with KGB assassins. Seems pretty simple, doesn't it?
The Russians took revenge on a former Russian, using a Russian weapon. The puzzle is: the Russians deny it.

If the ultimate objective of an assassination attempt was to shout 'we never forget, we will get you - eventually', then why deny it? If the point was to generate fear, then why deny it? In fact, why use a weapon that immediately implicates Russian involvement?
Implausible deniability The suggestion would seem to be that it is so obvious who must have done it that it must be a setup. Someone wanted Russia to eat the blame and absorb whatever international condemnation might follow. Being chess players, that might mean the Russians did do it, counting on the counter-intuitive overly-obvious-argument to provide cover.
The Man who knew too much There is a calculus here, where the evaluation of risk and reward must take place. In other words, someone made a decision that the potential of getting caught and punished was worth less than the value gained in the removal of the victim. Skripal had long been retired, any secrets he may have had would be shared by now. He could not be viewed as a threat. His daughter would either be unavoidable collateral or a statement ('we'll go after your family too!'
Skripal's whereabouts and identity were known - as targets go, he would have been low-hanging fruit. Agent Provocateur Opinionated and biased, I just don't get the math. The Russians would have had a long opportunity to go after the victim, and once they had committed to the deed, they could have found ways to make it look like an accident (i.e. Avoid detection and potential retribution). So let's say the underlying motive was to remind everyone in the world that the KGB has a long reach and a long memory. Why deny the deed? You are creating a narrative and then immediately weakening it.
If you want a tough reputation, feigning that you are the victim does not impress anyone. And, so far, the foreseeable punitive repercussions seem slight (e.g.
Ejection of diplomats); not something that would have stayed the hand of an angry and vengeful Kremlin. Is it really outside the realm of possibility that a third party, one that is perhaps not enamored of the West or the Russians, simply saw an opportunity to foment discord between perennial rivals? Of itself it is (relatively speaking) small - but large things can come from a long parade of small things. Did the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand directly trigger WWI, or was it one event added to a growing pile - tipping the scales to something inconceivable? I've read many posts of Unix Admins wrestling with EMC LUNZs. They should disappear on their own when LUNs are assigned - but sometimes they don't, and then they sit and at best serve to confuse, and at worst generate periodic SCSI error traffic that populates your messages log and may distract you from real problems.
At first I thought the key was to use ' luxadm' to put the devices offline, maybe work some unconfigure commands with ' cfgadm', then remove the device handles with ' devfsadm -Cv'. That worked, but only until the next reboot. The real answer was to populate the pwwnlunblacklist in /kernel/drv/fp.conf and reboot. The reduction of noise in the messages file was worth the effort.
I have no access to other versions of Solaris and cannot say how to deal with LUNZs on them.
